Enter the Creative Testing Framework:
Step 1: Start with Hooks Test the first 3 seconds of your ad. These are your scroll-stoppers. Your goal in this step is to capture the viewer's attention immediately. Try:
A question: “Tired of [pain point]?” This not only engages the viewer but also resonates with their interests and challenges.
A shock stat: “90% of marketers waste ad spend...” This creates curiosity and compels the audience to learn more about the effectiveness of your strategy.
A bold statement: “We fired our agency. Here’s what happened.” Such statements provoke thought and invite scrutiny, which is beneficial for discussion.
Step 2: Use Modular Creative Don’t reinvent the wheel each time. Instead, swap out different elements to keep your content fresh without starting from scratch. This efficient approach saves time and resources. For example:
Voiceovers that can vary in tone and style depending on the target audience.
On-screen text that can be updated to highlight current promotions or messages.
CTAs that can be modified based on the performance metrics from previous tests.
Step 3: Test in Cold Audiences Understand that retargeting data is often biased due to existing awareness of your brand. Cold audiences provide a clearer signal of what truly resonates. Testing in this way can reveal genuine interest and engagement with your content.
Step 4: Judge Fast Make quick judgments using early signals like:
3-second view rate, which indicates initial interest.
CTR, or click-through rates, are clear indicators of content effectiveness.
Thumbstop ratio, which measures how often users stop scrolling when they see your content.
Cut losers quickly. It’s vital to analyze performance and pivot strategies when necessary. Promote winners into higher-budget campaigns to maximize return on investment and further develop successful ads.
Bonus Tip: Document each test meticulously. Build a comprehensive playbook of what works for your brand and what doesn’t, as this will serve as an invaluable resource for future campaigns.
